Addabbo flip-flops over gay marriage

From the Daily News:

When it comes to gay marriage, state Sen. Joseph Addabbo was against it before he was for it — and now he seems to be against it again.

Last year, the Queens Democrat’s position-changing vote helped legalize same-sex marriage.

But now, Addabbo is locked in a tight reelection fight with Republican City Councilman and gay-marriage opponent Eric Ulrich. And the senator recently told the Far Rockaway Jewish Alliance during an endorsement interview that he’d again vote no if given the chance, according to two Jewish publications.

Why? Because his newly redrawn district is suddenly more conservative.

Addabbo, who is Catholic, cast a nay vote that contributed to the death of a gay marriage bill in 2009. After Gov. Cuomo, the Democratic standard-bearer in New York, aggressively pushed the issue after taking office last year, Addabbo changed his position, explaining his shift by saying that he polled the matter in his district and found his constituents supported gay marriage.

Cuomo cited the “courage” Addabbo showed in changing his position when he endorsed the senator earlier this month over Ulrich, a Catholic who once considered entering the priesthood. Addabbo’s pro-gay marriage stance also won him the backing of the Empire State Pride Agenda, the state’s largest gay advocacy group.

But the Legislature redrew Addabbo’s district lines following last year’s gay marriage vote, bringing into his territory more conservative enclaves in Far Rockaway, Kew Gardens and parts of Forest Hills — and leading to his second flip on the issue.

Just another sly politician.

He'll say whatever it takes so that he gets re-elected.

Far Rockaway's Jews are very conservative. The only reason they elected Goldfeder (a Democrat) is because he came from the community and was supported by its leaders.

I'm a Republican and a Catholic and I'm voting for Joe Adabbo because I've known him for years and Eric is just not to be trusted one bit.

I have more respect for Tom Duane than for this guy ... at least with Duane, you know where he's coming from and does not try to be a chameleon ...

And addabbo thought that by naming bridges, schools, and medical clinics with his father's name would make his reelection easy....

Anon No. 8: All of those things were named after Joe Addabbo, Sr. a long time ago. They were named after him because he was a great person, not to make Joe, Jr.'s election or reelection easier. Your obsession with this matter is ridiculous.

the district citizens have common sense. only a few U.S.States (about 6) have VOTED for non-traditional ,same sex marriage, as law.

California voters who voted against same-sex marriage were overruled by a fed.judge ,who is gay.

NYS religious groups can not be sued ,if they refuse same-sex marriages.by the law.

the remainder of the states are for traditional male/female marriage.

i invoke the Q.C./JOHN ADAMS quote.....

There the thing - at least Duane is what he is - no hiding or shading an issue. I cannot vote for Addabbo because he ran a family guy then won and voted anti-family for gay marriage. Now he decides he's changing his mind before the election - are we stupid? so VOTE FOR ULRICH - or if Duane was running vote for him - vote for honest and that's what you can expect from a leader.

What's with all the flip floppers?
Aren't there any steadfast honest politicians around who we can trust?
