Skelos resigns as Senate majority leader

Embattled Senate Republican Majority Leader Dean Skelos has told his members he is stepping down from his leadership post, the Daily News has learned.

Skelos, who along with his son was hit with federal corruption charges May 4, made the announcement during a closed-door meeting with his Republican members, a source confirmed.

He will be replaced by Senate Education Committee Chairman John Flanagan (R-Suffolk County).
