You can get a different kind of charge at Wifi kiosks

From DNA Info:

The city installed at least 40 new Link NYC kiosks on the Upper East Side beginning in March, and residents say they've created a nuisance in the neighborhood due to the size and density of the machines.

While the kiosks, which stand 9-feet 6-inches tall, have so far only been installed in spots where public pay phones used to be, more are coming, with the city's goal to bring 4,550 of the machines to the city by July 2019, according to CityBridge, which operates LinkNYC.

The kiosks — which offer free access to Wi-Fi, phones, phone chargers and internet browsers — have also become spots for drug deals, according to some residents.

The NYPD did not respond to requests for more information.

DUMB AND DANGEROUS IDEA. DID THE IDIOTS EVER CONSIDER THE HIGH RISK OF TERRORISM THESE KIOSKS WILL BRING TO THE CITY? Who got paid off on this one?

Didn't the DEA, NYPD, US Government catch drug dealers in the Bronx with 1,000,000 bags of heroin ?

Isn't the war on drugs over now ?

More people need to be CONNECTED to how their politicians are screwing them out of their quality of life!
The more and more we stay isolated in our tech devices, the more and more these SOBs can pull the wool over our eyes.
Wake up. Live in the REAL three dimensional world instead of your two dimensional screens.

These things are excessively large and hideous just to plug in a cell phone. Nobody carries those dynex chargers?

And with dopes standing there for 10 minutes and homeless people using it as a bedpost, it creates yet another obstacle to go around. This may be the dumbest idea of all time. But yet everything is turning upside down thanks to the reliance of smartphones, social media and the sharing economy.

Are we not men? we are devo(lved).

Shouldn't this have gone first to the local Community Board for comments?

Can we finally get the facts straight on these-- they HAVE NOT REPLACED unused shitty public phone booths. Those are still there, in all their decrepitude. Phone booths never go away, no matter how little they are used. These worthless monoliths are in addition to the too much shit that already blocks mid-town Manhattan sidewalks. They are basically hi-tech advertising billboards that block views and pedestrian traffic.

Can anyone be sure that all of the phone's information is not being down loaded...

Free WIFI, free recharging... I guess there IS a free lunch after all!

Great way for the criminals to see what devices you are carrying.

I agree that these beasts are unnecessary and a nuisance, but how the hell do you make the leap to them bringing a "HIGH LEVEL OF TERRORISM" to the city? Stretch, much?

Remember those old time street phone booths?

Terrorism? Really now?

Those phone booths are still out there. As are those other NYNEX (remember) phone booths from the 90's. They have become bike racks now.
