Strange parking regs at Steinway Mansion

Hello Crapper:

Here's a brand new sign found by the "Steinway Park" warehouses on 42nd Street. Any idea what's going on? I have no idea. The warehouse facades are complete. The sidewalk is open to pedestrians. The work now occurring there is the finishing up of the interiors. The exteriors plus sidewalks are now complete.

At the front,
GtheA

PS The arrow on the sign points leftward but there is no signage further south along 42nd street to indicate where the "no parking" ends.

The city needs money, and this way the traffic enforcement team need not work so hard...

Perhaps the 'warehouses' are not doing too well and the politically connected syndicate that denied the community the mansion with a quick money making scheme is getting some official agencies to rent the spaces to help out?

Beating a dead horse!
The mansion is gone...finito....kaput...morte!
Queens' history is only there to be "developed" over.
Just like the RKO Keith's Flushing....rest in peace.

Looks like they are gonna drop large dumpsters, whats the emergency the city is demolishing ?

Are they definitely legit?

I thought these warehouses were meant for community-style workspaces and art and marketing collectives, Maybe some government offices seen how cool that williamsburgh building with the hot tub on the roof was and want one of their own. And I guess those steinway creeps are having major trouble getting the tenants they desire. Call it karma for their entombment of the mansion.

Thanks for the link to the DoT site, Anon... I went to the section on "signs" and note that every single one has "Dept of Transportation" across the bottom. This one doesn't....?

Looks like a sign that you buy at a hardware store - I don't think it's legit.

Are the Vallones behind this? We do know crony Halvetzas was involved. Papa Vallone has made comments about 'Landmarking' and Junior .... well the less said the better.

This is what a real sign looks like:

They are bogus like everything else about this little project. Complain to Costa and share with us his (non)reaction.

One can also buy custom signs from DOT ... http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/infrastructure/custom-signs.shtml

Yes, the sign does not have the Dept. of Transportation logo and did you find the sign on the list of signs on each street? I do not have address to search myself. Need street and cross streets...

On west side of 42nd Street. Cross streets: Berrian Boulevard and 19th Avenue. Much closer to Berrian. (See George's last Crapper-linked blog photo.)

If it's fake so also is the stanchion pole holding it up. Who authorized its placement in the concrete of the sidewalk?

I'm betting it's part of DiBlasio's "Vision Zero" plan to slowly remove parking from all parts of the city. The end goal being to make it useless to drive, because you can't get anywhere, and you can't park anywhere if you get there.

Giving out tickets is just an added bonus.

Rumor has it that Costa's office was called about this and no one has responded.

Are we surprised? He said they were boys from the neighborhood. In his world this is what Astoria and Astorians are all about.

So. What are we to believe? A possible NYC governmental entity may move into the "Steinway Park" warehouses? As a renter of one or more warehouse? As an owner of one or more warehouses? How much taxpayer money will be shelled out if either of these should materialize? Recall, the whole Halberian-Steinway property - Mansion plus the 11 warehouse acreage - could have been had for only 2.6 million dollars. See recent related post on this "WINDFALL".

So. What are we to believe?

In any event, this bears watching.

And our team will be.

PS The Mansion's councilman, Costa Constanides...his feet must be held to the fire! Hey Costa, wear asbestos shoes. We're coming to heat up your footsies.

In bklyn there are signs like this for the D.O.T meter maids to park there personal vechicals & switch to the city vechicals for ticketing people so id have to say queens is getting a similar D.O.T hub to provide more ticketing agent's in the area.oh & an official D.O.T sign wouldn't have or need any D.O.T.info on the bottom of there own sign.
